Michael Leckie

After leaving military life behind, I needed a new direction—something creative, something I’d always dreamed of doing but couldn’t personally achieve: singing. Since I couldn’t sing like Elvis, the next best thing was to find someone who could. That’s when I met my pal—an incredible Elvis tribute artist—at an Elvis Festival on Daydream Island in May 2014. That meeting planted a seed.

My mind is constantly buzzing with ideas, always looking for ways to bring my dreams to life. I first dipped my toes into event planning by attempting to organize a festival on Phillip Island, Victoria. Everything seemed to be going well—until trust issues arose around ticketing. Being an unknown in the scene made it hard to gain credibility, and unfortunately, the event didn’t take off. But I never gave up.

Later, while living in North Queensland, I noticed that Elvis tribute artists rarely ventured that far north. So, in 2018, I launched Elvis in the Tropics. It was a hit. We toured North Queensland, and as word spread that my pal was flying in from Scotland, interest grew across the country. Soon, we had shows lined up in Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney.

That success carried into 2019, when we took part in the iconic Parkes Elvis Festival. It was there that we secured our first contract with the Parkes Services Club—just before the pandemic put a halt to everything. But in the years that followed, from 2023 to 2025, we returned to Parkes and even traveled back to Scotland for the Scottish Elvis Festival, run and organized by none other than my pal himself.

My love for festivals only grew stronger. After a few calls and video conferences, the Scottish Elvis Festival Down Under was born—a beautiful merging of cultures and passions.

Amidst all of this, my personal life was evolving too. My marriage ended, but I found my perfect partner—someone who truly understands and supports me. She lives in Scotland, and I decided to move there to see where life would take us.
Living in Scotland felt like home. I explored the breathtaking Glens near Alva and Menstrie—majestic waterfalls that became my sanctuary. The natural therapy even did wonders for my right knee, though that’s a story for another day.

While continuing to organize Elvis shows, I found myself drawn to writing. Without even realizing it, I had written 12 stories. Some may never leave my drawer, but I’ve proudly published my first two novels. The first, Survival, was released in mid-2024. Eager to keep the momentum going, I worked with the KDP Network, who were instrumental in helping me publish my second book: Suspicious Time – Elvis and the Time Travellers.

I have no idea where my mind wanders when I write—but wherever it goes, it’s always an adventure. And for me, that’s the best part.
